To become an internationally recognised urban transport consulting and research organisation that advocates for, and implements innovative and context-appropriate urban transport solutions. This vision will be achieved through:

  • the implementation, in collaboration with local and international partners; of evidence-based projects in the areas of school travel planning, NMT planning and road safety

  • education and awareness campaigns

  • research and consulting

We believe in a collaborative approach to the design and implementation of urban transport solutions (encompassing the public, private and civil sectors). This is informed by our firm belief in a Whole Society approach in addressing transport issues. This is particularly pertinent for one of our key focus areas (road safety) where budgets allocated to reduce road traffic injuries and fatalities are often woefully inadequate vis a vis the magnitude of the problem at hand. A collaborative approach therefore allows partners to pool the limited resources and make a greater impact. We also strongly believe in community participation in the design and implementation of transport solutions that affect those communities. in short, 'nothing about them without them'. We believe that this is an approach that has numerous benefits, including (but not limited to) the following:

  • help build trust between communities and those charged with implementing transport solutions and help allay anxiety or hostility towards transport improvements

  • provide legitimacy to transport improvements/solutions

  • help build an active citizenry

  • ensure the sustainability of transport improvements/solutions etc.

Our primary objectives are to:

  • promote safe and sustainable travel behaviour

  • promote non-motorised travel (NMT) modes as a crucial component of any city's transport system

  • act as a resource for organisations and partners involved in the planning and implementation of transport improvements for non-motorised travel (NMT) modes

  • raise awareness about road traffic safety and traffic crash injury prevention

  • promote a partnership approach in road traffic injury prevention through demonstration projects

  • promote community involvement as a crucial component in the planning and implementation of transport improvements
